INEC hails self, says Ibarapa East bye-election peaceful (PHOTOS)

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has reacted to the outcome of the Ibarapa East State Constituency bye-election to fill the vacant seat in the Oyo state House of Assembly conducted on Saturday.

The commission, while rating itself high, adjudged the election it conducted in 140 polling units held today, (Saturday 2nd June, 2018) as peaceful.

It announced the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Mr. Adebo Ogundoyin as the winner in the keenly-contested bye-election.

INEC revealed that Ogundoyin defeated the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate, Mr. Olukunle Adeyemo, the brother of the late Oyo speaker, Hon Michael Adeyemo and five others.

National commissioner representing Oyo, Osun and Ekiti states, Prince Adedeji Soyebi, while speaking with newsmen, described the exercise as peaceful.

Soyebi, who was with the Resident Electoral Commissioner (REC) in the state, Barrister Mutiu Agboke to monitor the election, disclosed that there was no report of any violence during the election.

He said, “The exercise has been adjudged peaceful as there was no reported cases of any violence recorded from any quarter during the exercise.”
