The Kogi State office of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC was grounded on Monday and Tuesday, as staff of the commission await the arrival of a new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC, who is yet to be named.
It will be recalled that the former Kogi State REC, Halilu Pai, was drafted to Kano State to oversee the affairs of INEC in the state following the death of the former Kano State REC, Munkaila Abdullahi.
A source at the Marine Road, Lokoja, headquarters, said Tuesday that earlier meetings scheduled for Monday and Tuesday could not hold due to the absence of the REC, who will oversee the meetings.
The source also confirmed that the Rivers State REC, Gesila Khan, has been tipped to replace Pai.
The source said: “We are preparing for Saturday’s elections but the arrival of the new REC for Kogi is what is really hampering our actions.
“Since we are not doing governorship election here in Kogi, we don’t have much to do but the earlier we prepare for it, the better the success we will record in the election.”
