The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, have reportedly scheduled the run-off governorship elections in three states, Imo, Abia and Taraba, where last Saturday’s elections were declared inconclusive, for Saturday 18 of April.
According to senior officials of the commission, the proposed April 18 date was yet to be officially confirmed because those who are supposed to take a decision on it are yet to meet.
DAILY POST recalls that INEC had declared the Imo State gubernatorial election inconclusive following the cancellation of results from 216 polling units that cut across 23 local governments with over 144,000 registered voters.
For Abia State, the polls were declared inconclusive after the state electoral officer was said to have earlier cancelled the results from Obioma Ngwa, Isiala Ngwa and Osisioma Ngwa local government areas, only to later authenticate the results, leading to protests by members of All Progressives Grand Alliance, APGA.
