President Muhammadu Buhari has sent names of 27 nominees for Senate’s confirmation as Resident Electoral Commissioners (RECs) for the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
He made this known in a letter addressed to the National Assembly which was read by the Senate President, Bukola Saraki, during plenary on Thursday.
The letter was dated February 27 and signed by Vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo at the time he was acting on President Muhammadu Buhari’s behalf.
The nominations followed the recent expiration of the tenures of RECs in 33 states.
RECs head the operations of the Independent National Electoral Commission at sub-national units.
Therefore, even when the 27 nominees are confirmed, six states will still not have RECs.
