The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, would on 12th February 2018 commence the continuous voters registration (CVR) at INEC offices in all the 21 local Government Areas and other designated centres in Anambra State.
A press release by the Head Voter Education and INEC Media and Publicity secretary in Anambra State, Mr Leo Ikedife stated that the exercise would hold from Monday to Friday between the hours of 9am-3pm daily, excluding weekends and public holidays.
The release stated that, “To this effect, the Commission is calling on all eligible persons who have not registered during the previous registration exercise and those who just attained the age of 18 years to come out and get registered.”
The release also called on those who had lost their permanent voters cards and those whose cards were defaced or those with incorrect spellings and particulars to avail themselves of the opportunity.
“Equally, people who have been transferred from where they registered before should visit the registration centers and have their data transferred to their new places of residence or work,” it said.
The commission reminded the public that it was an electoral offence with stiff penalty to engage in double registration noting that in line with section 9(5) of the Electoral act 2010 as amended, registration of voters ends sixty (60) days before the conduct of a General Election.
The release urged all those who have registered before but have not collected their permanent voters’ Cards to visit INEC offices in all the twenty-one Local Government Areas and collect their PVC’s as anyone without Permanent Voters’ Cards (PVCs), would not vote during the 2019 General Election.
