Inauguration: What Zulum said during his swearing in as Borno governor

Newly-inaugurated Governor of Borno State, Professor Babagana Umara Zulum has said that restoration of peace, quality education and job creation would form part of his 10- Point agenda to reposition the state.

He also said that the era of political thuggery and those who constituted nuisance in the state is over as his administration would come up with a robust entrepreneurship skills to engage youth who are the future leaders of the state.

Zulum stated this at Ramat Square Maiduguri, venue for the official handing over and swearing in ceremony of the elected governor by the Chief Judge of the state, Justice Kashim Zannah.

In his acceptance/inaugural speech which was at a point disrupted by the firing of tear gas to control the mamoth crowd, the new Governor said his administration will run an inclusive government devoid of selfishness, political, religious or ethnic divides.

He however solicited support from the security agencies, traditional and religious leaders, and the good people of the state in order to move Borno to a greater height.

His words: “I want thank God Almighty, President Muhammadu Buhari, Former Governor Kashim Shettima and the good people of the state for giving him the mandate to serve as governor on the platform of the ruling All Progressive Congress, APC.

” My focus is on improving the security of the state as insecurity is the major impediment that affected the lives of people.

“On food security, I will ensure the return of our displaced people to their farmlands to ensure national food security.

” I will fight unemployment and poverty amongst our youths and embark on massive reconstruction of our destroyed communities so that people would return to their ancestral homes, while we seek more support from humanitarian agencies.

“I want to also state categorically that the era of political thuggery a.k.a. ECOMOG who constituted nuisance in the state is over as the present administration would come up with a robust entrepreneurship skills to engage youth who are the future leaders of tomorrow.”

Before his hand-over to the Governor-elect, former Governor Kashim Shettima thanked the people of Borno state for giving him the opportunity to serve them in the last eight years despite challenges by Boko Haram sect.

He called on the people to accord the same maximum support to Governor Zulum for a better Borno State.
