The Governor of Kaduna state, Nasiru El-Rufai, who was sworn into office for a second term on Wednesday, has announced the extension of maternity leave in the state workforce to six months.

El-Rufai said that the state executive council approved the six-month maternity leave for all new nursing mothers in the state.

The Governor made the announcement Thursday on his Twitter handle, explaining that this would encourage the healthy development of infants through prolonged breastfeeding, among other benefits.

He wrote, ” I am pleased to announce that just yesterday, our State Executive Council approved six months maternity leave for our female public servants”

”This encourages the healthy development of infants through prolonged breastfeeding, among other benefits”.

He equally advised that mothers in the state should be reminded that children up to the age of five are entitled to free, regular medical check-ups in public hospitals.

The Governor expressed his gratitude to the out-going Deputy Governor of the state, Architect Barnabas Yusuf Bala, thanking him for his service and sending his best wishes to his family.
