Imposition destroying political parties in Nigeria – General Ike Nwachukwu

Elder Statesman, General Ike Nwachukwu (rtd) has identified imposition as the major factor destroying political parties in Nigeria.

He said the main dominant parties in Nigeria lacked internal democracy due to imposition of unpopular candidates on the people.

General Nwachukwu stated this while addressing a delegations of the Social Democratic Party from Abia state, led by the chairman of the steering committee of the party in the state, Honorable Chidi Nwosu, who paid him a visit in his Ovim Isukwuato residence on Sunday.

He said, “SDP, I don’t want you people to be like the ruling APC and PDP. What destroys a political party is imposition of unpopular candidates on the people.

“PDP when they were in power refused the will of the people to prevail. Election will be conducted, PDP will go and write results.

“I’m calling on SDP Abia state not to toe the same path with other parties. Shun violence and work hard to ensure your party win elections”.

The former National Assembly member charged the party delegations to field popular candidates in the 2019 election, who will stand for truth and betterment of the people.

He equally called on the Nigerian electorates to shun money politics and obtain their permanent voters cards to enable them vote for credible candidates in the 2019 poll.

“I’m calling on you to shun money politics and field candidates that will stand for truth and do better for the people.

“Also, eligible voters in the state and the country should obtain their permanent voters cards and during the election day, you vote according to yours conscience,” he added.
