The All Progressives Congress (APC), Ondo State Chapter has announced the arrival of the impeached deputy governor of the State, Alhaji Ali Olanusi from his oversea’s medical trip.
Olanusi, who was impeached by the State House of Assembly over alleged gross misconduct and replaced by Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo, had earlier written to the State Governor, Olusegun Mimiko on his preparation to travel abroad in order to attend to his health challenges.
However, Olanusi, who has been appointed as a member of the APC Board of Trustees has approached the law court to challenge his removal from office.
In a statement issued by the APC State Publicity Secretary, Om’oba Abayomi Adesanya said Olanusi is expected to return to his duty post as his impeachment was illegal.
The statement reads, “Alhaji Ali Olanusi, the Deputy Governor of Ondo State, who was purportedly impeached in absentia without due process, while away on routine medical check-up, has arrived Muritala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, at exactly 4:25PM today (Thursday May 21, 2015) aboard Air France from Berlin, Germany.
“Olanusi is hale and hearty now to continue his service to fatherland.
“We want to reiterate that Olanusi’s Impeachment was illegal, null and void. It is an affront to the spirit and letters of the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, 1999 as amended.
“Further more, the oath of office administered on the new Deputy Governor, Alhaji Lasisi Oluboyo by the Attoney-General and Commissioner for Justice of the State, Eyitayo Jegede (SAN), was illegal, because Attoney-General has no such constitutional powers to administer oath on Governor or Deputy Governor, but only the Chief Judge.
“Therefore, this constitutional breaches must be investigated thoroughly and any erring officer sanctioned adequately”, the statement reads”.
