Impeached Edo Deputy Speaker breaks silence, blasts colleagues

Victor Edoror, the impeached Deputy Speaker of the Edo State House of Assembly has described his removal as illegal and unlawful.

Edoror said his removal on Monday was unlawful, insisting that he remained the Deputy Speaker.

Recall that Edoror’s impeachment followed a motion moved by the member representing Oredo East Constituency, Hon. Osaigboyo Oyoha, Channels reports.

Hon. Oyoha moved the motion, alleging financial misappropriation, anti-party activities and corruption against the former Deputy Speaker.

Reacting, however, the embattled lawmaker denied the allegation of corruption.

He accused the Speaker of allegedly misappropriating funds meant for the House and attempting to create a rift between the National Chairman of the APC, Mr Adams Oshiomhole and Governor Godwin Obaseki.

He told newsmen, “As it affects Edo State House of Assembly, we must have 16 members. As we speak, there are six. So, they do not have the number.

“We asked about the people who signed and the majority said that they did not sign. So, they are dwelling on serious illegality and it cannot work.

“Do I have the resources to handle as the Deputy Speaker? Why would corruption come in? He (Adjoto) is the one that is corrupt.

“More than N600m came as overhead for members and he (Adjoto) embezzled it; that is why he is afraid.

“Again, he is trying to cause a problem between Oshiomhole and the Governor of Edo State, by telling the governor that Oshiomhole is using us to impeach him (Adjoto) so that they can impeach the governor. I remain the Deputy Speaker.”
