Imo police beef up security over alleged threats from terrorists

Following alleged terrorists’ threats, the Imo State Police Command says it has beefed up security in and around some parts of Owerri, the state capital.

The command said it received notification from an unidentified social media source, claiming some parts of the state would be attacked by some terrorists.

The Command equally assured people of the state that the security agencies in the state were doing everything possible to ensure security of lives and property while effort is being made to identify the faceless reporter.

Vanguard is reporting that the Police Public Relations Officer, PPRO, Mr. Andrew Enwerem, a Deputy Superintendent of Police, said the Command would stop at nothing to ensure security in the state.

The PPRO was quoted to have said on Wednesday that: “The attention of the Imo State Police Command has been drawn to an audio recorded message circulating in the social media by a faceless whistle blower, informing the citizenry of a planned attack on World Bank, Douglas Road, Government House, Central Mosque, Relief Market etc by unknown individuals.

“The Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Taiwo Lakanu, based on the information, ordered the beefing up of security around the state.

“The CP has deployed both overt and covert operatives, while the Bomb Disposal Unit has been directed to sweep the aforementioned areas to avert any breakdown of law and order.”

The CP, however, urged the general public to go about their lawful businesses without panic.
