Imo North: Group raises alarm over PDP’s alleged plan to produce fake results

As the people of Imo North senatorial district await the outcome of People’s Democratic Party (PDP) petition against the election of Distinguished Senator Benjamin Uwajumogu, youths from the area have expressed worry over alleged plans by the PDP candidate, Chief Athan Achonu to tender fake results, as well as hoodwink Judges, ahead of resumption of the reconstituted panel.

The youths under the auspices of Progressive Okigwe Youths for Good Governance, (OYGG) in a statement disclosed that its intelligence reports objectively suggest that the PDP candidate is intensifying efforts to arm-twist the Judiciary with media blackmail, as well as, perfecting a plot to tender fake result sheets written by him, to the newly reconstituted tribunal.

According to the leader of the group, Barr. James Nwaosu, “concrete plans have been perfected by the PDP’s candidate to influence the outcome of the election petition by compromising some of the Judges and submitting locally printed result sheets to deceive the Election petition tribunal.”

He wondered why Chief Achonu, a respected leader of the umbrella party in Imo state, would condescend to the level of “producing locally manufactured result sheets that was printed for him in Ikeja lagos state, as authentic results for the concluded election, just to deceive members of the election petition tribunal, in an election adjudged to be the fairest and most credible in the history of the zone.”

He further called on the people of the zone to “remain vigilant and prayerful too, assuring that the judiciary would not be swayed by the antics of desperate politicians who wants the judiciary to be at their beck and call, vis a vis putting them on notice before the constitution of tribunal panels, as well as, its disbandment because they feel they have money and contacts in the high places as they claim”.

“It is really disheartening that these anti-democratic forces won’t let go for Okigwe zone to move forward, but against all odds we firmly believe that our judiciary still retains that appellation: the last hope of the common man.

“It is however on this premise that we call on our people and the All Progressives Congress to maintain vigilance in this sinister attempt to truncate the wishes of our people”, the statement concludes.

It could be recalled that DAILY POST broke the news about a month ago that Benjamin Uwajumogu of the All Progressive Congress (APC) was sworn in as Senator representing Imo North, having won his reelection against the PDP candidate, Chief Athan Achonu.

Not comfortable with the outcome of the election, Chief Achonu petitioned the reconstituted tribunal, seeking that the election be nullified.
