Imminent danger at OAU zoo, as lions go hungry [PHOTOS]

There seems to be imminent danger at the Obafemi Awolowo University Ile-ife Zoological Gardens, located within the dome of the campus, as four lions in the zoo are seriously starved.

An investigation by DAILY POST revealed that in the past, the animals were being fed with pigs on daily basis, the delicacy that have kept them healthy and friendly.

However, since the advent of Prof. Eyitope Ogunmodede led-administration in June 2017, life has not been same for these wild animals.

A source at the gardens, who confided in our reporter confessed that due to paucity of funds, the lions were no longer getting their daily meal, a situation that has compelled the attendants to seriously ration available food among the four lions.

It was reliably deduced that the lions were now being fed about three times a week.

“The situation at the gardens continues to degenerate by the day; I really pity the attendants in charge of the animals; these animals could become more aggressive and deadly as a result of starvation”, a source disclosed.

DAILY POST recalls that an attendant at Agodi zoo in Ibadan, the Oyo State capital, Mr. Hamzat Oyekunle, popularly called Baba Olorunwa was killed in September by a lion he had fed for over five years.

Although, the real cause of this incident has not been made public by Oyo State government, the circumstances surrounding the tragedy might not be unconnected with the present situation at OAU zoological gardens.
