Illegal Tapping: KRPC loses 50 Cubic litres of water every hour-Malami

The Kaduna Refining and Petrochemical Company (KRPC), has decried the activities of water communities who specialize in tapping into its water pipes illegally.

The company said it was loosing about 50 cubic litres of water every hour to communities, where its water pipes passed through.

Presenting a paper titled, “KRPC Operational Status and Readiness for Autonomy,” Shehu Malami, Executive Director Operations, KRPC, said apart from using the water illegally, a huge quantum of it was also being wasted through leakages of vandalized pipes.

He added that the leakages of vandalized pipes was a major challenge affecting oil refining as the plant mainly depends on water for cooling.

Malami also cleared the air on the purity of the water, saying, they were well treated to international standard before being disposed.

“The Kaduna refinery has been in existence since 1980 and the case of health or environmental effect has been recorded from the water we disposes into the rivers.

“Their is no right thinking human being that know there are effect in such water and still disposes it into the river which we know that our brothers and sisters consumes,” he explained.

He called on citizens to help protect public infrastructures and advised those involved in vandalizing water pipes to desist from such act as KRPC was always ready to provide social amenities to its host communities.
