The aspiration of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, House of Representatives candidate in Odo-Otin\Boripe\Ifelodun federal constituency of Osun State, Barrister Kayode Oduoye, received a major boost yesterday as an Ikirun based youth organization, Agunbe Advocacy Group, AAG, threw its weight behind his candidacy, commending him for the good initiatives he has put in place for the people of the area.
The coordinator of the group, Abdul-Hamid Adeoye, commended the PDP candidate for initiating a free bus service for the community, which he said has helped in no little way to ease the transportation pains of the people.
Speaking with newsmen in Ikirun, Adeoye said the free bus service initiative of Oduoye is an innovation in Ikirun and one that has positively projected Oduoye as a man who understands the pains of the people he seeks to represent.
He said: “The initiative is a form of poverty alleviation because the transport fare will be useful for some other purposes. It is only those who reside in the town who can testify to how the free bus service has helped our people.”
On the candidature of Oduoye, Adeoye said there is no doubt that the PDP candidate is the choice of the people of Ikirun, adding that it was because of his wide acceptance that his group decided to back him.
“Kayode Oduoye is widely accepted here and we, as a group of young people have seen in him, a man who can represent us adequately. We have no doubt as to what he will be able to attract to our community if he gets the mandate of the people which we are prepared to give him”.
Speaking in the same vein, a market women leader in the town identified as Alhaja Sherifat, praised the PDP candidate for his kind gesture, adding that the provision of the free bus service by Oduoye is an example of “dividend of democracy by a Man who is yet to get to office. We can imagine what he is going to do when he is elected”.
Speaking on the rationale behind the provision of the free bus service, Barrister Oduoye said the gesture is to alleviate the sufferings of the people.
“I decided to initiate the bus service so as to assist our people. It is another form of poverty alleviation. You know Osun State is a civil service state and the bulk of our people are dependent on the salaries of the civil servants who are yet to receive their October salary. This is my own way of assisting our people”, he said.
