Ikeme can replace Enyeama in Super Eagles – Shofoluwe

Former Nigeria international, Yisa Shofoluwe, has praised Carl Ikeme’s display after the Super Eagles drew 0-0 against Tanzania on Saturday.

The Wolves goalkeeper, who was a late call-up for captain Vincent Enyeama, pulled off a series of impressive saves to deny the Taifa Stars especially in the second half.

Shofoluwe says the 29-year-old, is good enough to replace Enyeama.

“I enjoyed the goalkeeper [Ikeme] who was in goal for us, he was absolutely fantastic,” he told Goal.

“He was the reason why we escaped with a draw in Dar es Salam. Cool, calm and blessed with great reflexes, the positive we can take from this game is that that we have a very reliable replacement for Enyeama .

“Summarily, I feel it was a good start for Oliseh. Personally, we should have won the game but that draw is a commendable result.”

Nigeria will host the Pharoahs of Egypt in their next qualifier in March 2016 and Shofoluwe has predicted a tough tie for Sunday Oliseh’s men.

“Playing against Egypt will be very tough,” he continued.

“We need to invite our best legs and prepare very well because this team are far better than the Tanzanians.

“They are skillful, fast and very compact so we must ensure we secure maximum points at home and hope we get a draw in Cairo.

“We will definitely qualify but it won’t be on a platter of gold as we must win all our remaining games and avoid defeat. Hard work will see us through.”
