Ijaws demand first-class treatment in Delta, attack Gov. Okowa

A group, which identified itself as Ijaw Interest Advocates, IIA, (Izanzazn Intellectual Camp), Friday told the Delta State Governor, Sen. Ifeanyi Okowa and his deputy, Barr. Kingsley Otuaro that their effort in the state’s education sector is sectional and lopsided.

The group made the assertion in a statement signed and made available to DAILY POST by its National Coordinator, Amb. Arerebo Salaco Yerinmene Jnr, stressing that they should be treated as first-class citizens in Delta state.

IIA held that the Ijaws were being marginalized educationally by the Okowa-led government, stressing that, “more than 90% schools in the riverine (Ijaw) communities are dilapidated.”

It challenged Governor Okowa and his Deputy, Otuaro to publish the locations where they claimed to have built and renovated 3,381 classrooms across the 25 local government areas in the state.

The group, which divided the 3,381 classrooms among the 25 LGAs, argued that Governor Okowa may have built approximately 135 classrooms in each of the schools in Burutu, Bomadi, Patani, Warri South-West and Warri North local government areas.

IIA said, “We challenge Governor Okowa to publish the locations the classrooms are cited in Ijaw towns and villages.

“We can no longer live under circumstance. We bread Delta State with our God given Natural resources, we deserved to be treated as first-class Deltans. We can no longer allow Gov. Ifeanyi Okowa-led Delta State Government to continue to lie to our people. How can a responsible government always lie to the masses? How can a responsible government fail to address the primary needs of the people and yet toil with our collective intelligence.

“No! Enough is enough. We can no longer be deceived by Governor Okowa/ Kingsley Otuaro led Delta State Government.”
