Ijaw HOSTCOM urges Chevron to provide Kokodiagbene community electricity

The Ijaw Ethnic Nationality of Host Communities of Nigeria (HOSTCOM) Oil & Gas has urged Oil Multinational, Chevron Nigeria Limited to provide electricity for Kokodiagbene community in Gbaramatu, Warri South-West Local Government Area of Delta State.

The community had recently handed down the company a fourteen-day ultimatum which elapsed since last weekend to ensure it’s connected to its independent power plant.

The Delta State Chairman of Ijaw Ethnic Nationality(HOSTCOM), Comrade Kennedy Ikiere made the call on behalf of Kokodiagbene Community in Warri today.

Ikiere who threw its weight behind the community noted that their(Kokodiagbene Community) demand was not out of place, saying,” We want to call on the management of Chevron Nigeria Limited to kindly do the needful by providing Kokodiagbene community with electricity.

These are peace loving people and should not be allowed to suffer unnecessarily in the midst of plenty. We know Chevron to be a responsible corporate organization and so the company should in a responsible manner address the plight of the people.”

Ikiere commended the Delta State Government for stepping into the matter just as he advised that the matter be resolved amicably between Chevron and Kokodiagbene community.

Ikiere also enjoined the peace loving people of Kokodiagbene community to remain calm and refrain from acts that will affect Chevron’s operations in the area.
