Former Manchester United and Real Madrid striker, Michael Owen, has claimed that Kelechi Iheanacho, is not the same player he used to be under Pep Guardiola.
Owen believes that the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach, has failed to help Iheanacho build on his confidence from former Manchester City manager, Manuel Pellegrini.
“Iheanacho isn’t the same player he was once. His confidence has taken a hit, and I think he plays with a lot of pressure as he is unsure what could happen next unlike when Pelligrini was in charge,” Owen said.
“He is surrounded by players he knows have the trust of the manager unlike during Pellegrini’s reign where he had the trust of the manager and knows it, he has regressed under Guardiola. He is under pressure.”
Owen’s remarks comes after Guardiola admitted he made a mistake to start Iheanacho ahead of Sergio Aguero in their 2-1 win over Burnley on Monday.
