Ignore planned protest, strive for public offices – Actress Funke Adesiyan tells 2face, others

Popular actress, Funke Adesiyan, has waded into the planned nationwide protest by pop legend, Innocent Idibia, popularly known as 2face.

Recall that the music legend had announced that on February 5, he would be leading a protest against ‘obnoxious policies’ implemented by the President Muhammadu Buhari-led administration.

Also, dancehall star, Burna Boy and other celebrities including Olamide and Davido had declared their support for the planned protest.

But in her opinion, Adesiyan, who contested and lost a House of Assembly seat in Oyo State during the 2014 general elections, urged celebrities not to waste their time protesting, instead, strive to occupy public offices.

On her Instagram page @FunkeAdesiyan, she addressed the government as ‘Deaf horse.’

She said contesting for public offices by youths in the country is the only solution to achieving the desired change in government.

She wrote: “When people ask me why I joined politics, I tell them from the truest of my heart that it is because I got tired of how things were being done in my country. It’s not enough for us to protest, it’s more important for us, youths of this beloved nation to get involved in governance. You could try many times before achieving it.

“Even if you fail all the time, you are a champion amongst those who didn’t try at all. Let’s look around us, we will realize that we the youths are the driving force of our nation. We are smart, intelligent, agile and we possess many more special qualities.

“Let’s not waste it protesting to a deaf horse. I hereby advice we the youths of this nation, the most important part of nation building to rise and OCCUPY governance. Contest for public offices and be the change you so desire. God bless us all and God bless Nigeria.”
