The apex Igbo socio-cultural group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo has called on President Muhammadu Buhari to implement the report of the national conference.

The group, however, asked Buhari to ignore the recent call by some northern elders that president should shun the outcome of the report.

It would be recalled that former President, Goodluck Jonathan had organised the Confab towards the end of his tenure, apparently to address multiple structural imbalance confronting the nation.

Speaking with Vanguard, former Secretary General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Chief Nduka Eya, said it would be unfair if Buhari abandons the report of the confab that was organised with billions of Naira.

Eya said: ”There was need as every Nigerian has identified, to sit down and discuss on how we are going to live. Most segments of the country are complaining. What brought about the Biafran war? It was inequality, unfair play and injustice.

“Some people think they own this country. These challenges were what the Confab addressed. These challenges were generating a lot of mistrust among ourselves. Jonathan took the bull by the horn and was able to convoke the Confab where all shades of people came together to discuss the way forward.

“A section of this country never wanted the Confab because they are benefiting from the lopsidedness of the structure. The Confab built a bridge over the rivers of division in this country of how this country can go on and everybody was happy.

“Jonathan vowed to implement it. The All Progressives Congress, APC, thought the Confab was political and that was why they kicked against it. Now, we are almost six months down the line in the life of this administration and nobody is talking about it.

“The Confab report is a structural reconstruction of the country towards equity, justice and fair-play. These recommendations are what will help the fight against corruption.”
