Youths, under the aegis of Urhobo National Youth Council, UNYC, have called on the incoming administration to ignore the recent threats by leader of the defunct Niger Delta Peoples Volunteer Force, Alhaji Asari Dokubo.
Asari had threatened that his people will return to the creeks following the defeat of their kinsman, President Goodluck Jonathan in the last presidential election.
UNYC asked Gen. Buhari to regard Asari’s words as a mere threat.
The youth group further warned Asari against making inciting utterances against the incoming Muhammadu Buhari administration.
It assured the incoming administration of peace in the region.
UNYC National President, Monday Oyeghe, said that contrary to threats by Asari on the resumption of a “Niger Delta struggle,” the people of the region would support Buhari in achieving the needed change in Nigerian.
The group in a statement said, “No youth of the Niger Delta region would resort to arms struggle against the incoming administration, rather, we would work towards the success of the incoming administration especially in ensuring that the administration implements its development plan for the area”.
