Super Eagles striker, Odion Ighalo, has admitted he is aiming to win the CAF African Footballer of the Year award next year.
Speaking to FootballLive, Ighalo, who plays his football for Watford in the English Premier League, says he would like to break the 19-year wait for another Nigerian to win the prize.
Ighalo was named the best player in the EPL for December and while thanking his team-mates for helping him achieve success, he spoke about winning bigger plaques.
“I must thank my teammates for their contribution to every goal I scored. I owe them a lot for the award,” he said.
“Most people do not see the hard work I put into my game, they feel I just show up and score goals.
“Aubameyang (Pierre-Emerick) showed up and won the award (APoTY) and I think I can do the same. It will require a lot of hard work but it is surely achievable.”
