Residents of the South East geopolitical zone on Friday, defiled the sit-at-home order issued by the leadership of the Indigenous People of Biafra in protest of the continuous incarcerations of its leader, Nnamdi Kanu.
Recall that IPOB had announced that it will embark on a protest march against the incarceration of Kanu by the Federal Government.
IPOB also threatened that markets, banks and other institutions should be shut down, while movement be restricted in the whole of the South East geo-political.
But, residents of Imo State largely ignored the order as people went about their normal businesses.
All the markets, schools, medical facilities, financial houses and other business concerns remained open, while the officers and men of the State Police Command were seen at strategic points, across all the major urban towns of the state.
Some have, however, attributed the failure of IPOB order in Owerri, to the counter directive by the leader of Biafra Independence Movement, BIM, Chief Ralph Uwazuruike who urged his followers to ignore IPOB’s order.
Speaking through his Director of Information, Mr. Sunday Okerafor, Uwazuruike had urged his loyalists to go about their lawful businesses.
“The IPOB order is selfish and I’ll timed. Giving such an order in the face of the current economic hardship inflicted on Ndigbo by the Nigerian government, will cause more harm than good.
“BIM was never consulted and we would never have consented to such a sudden order by IPOB,” Uwazuruike had said.
In a related development, there was a partial adherence in Enugu as markets were observed to have witnessed low turnout out of traders and customers, including the the popular Ogbete Main Market.
