A group of Abuja-based entrepreneurs, under the aegis of Abuja Business Group (ABG) has said the federal government should be held responsible, if the country slips into another civil war following the spate of secessionist agitations rocking the country.
The group said this in a press statement signed and issued to newsmen on Tuesday by its President – Earl Osaro Onaiwu.
According to the group, the federal government needs to urgently look into all the agitations before they develop into a full blown crisis; stressing that if these agitations are not checkmated, the after effects would be too much for the nation to contend with.
Onaiwu, who pointed out that the strength of the nation lies in its population, insisted that the only way the nation can get it right is for the federal government to lead the entire nation into looking inward and addressing all the salient issues interfering with the peace and development of the country.
He also cautioned the agitators to learn from what happened in Sierra Leone, Liberia, Libya and recently, Syria; noting that till day these country have not been able to overcome the effect and devastation the war caused to the countries.
The statement reads in part: “This is the time federal government should look into all the agitations before they go out of hand and degenerated into a full blown crisis, which will be too difficult to contend with.
“Those fanning the embers of war should be cautioned and warned, because crisis does not recognize anybody. The language of war is blood. The nation has not fully recovered from the first civil war and Nigeria will not be able to survive another war.
“It is always difficult to achieve anything meaningful with war. War does not bring peace, rather it will help to create acrimony, hatred and bitterness. Instead of achieving peace, it help to create more division among people.
“We need each other because ‘we are stronger together’ and there is unity in diversity.”
