Worried by the spate of killings across the country, the Igbo community in Oyo State through the Ezendigbo Ibadan and Oyo State, Eze (Dr) Alex Anozie has called on the Federal Government to as a matter of urgency do everything within its purview to stop further killings going on in the country.
Anozie made the call during the 2018 Cultural Festival organised by Ohanaeze Ndigbo/Igbo Community Development Association (ICDA), Oyo State, held at the Liberty Stadium, Ibadan.
While commending the Federal Government led by President Muhammodu Buhari on his effort to bring sanity back into the polity, Anozie said all these efforts might be in vain if the Federal Government failed to stop the shedding the blood of innocent citizens across the country.
He said, “We want to say well done to the Federal Government for the efforts they have put in place towards checkmating corruption in the country.
“We are glad to hear that work has commenced in earnest on the 2nd Niger bridge, and the Highways in the south east. We remember vividly that it was in one of our Igbo Cultural Days here in Oyo State that I first made the call to Federal Government to give Nigerians a 2nd Niger bridge, having seen the hell people go through on that only one bridge that links the south east with other parts of the country.
“We are as well calling on the Federal Government to do everything possible to stop all the killings going on in the country, because those killings, wasting of human lives have continued to rubbish all the good efforts the Federal Government is making towards the up-liftment of Nigeria to a greater height”.
He also advised politicians not to play politics of bitterness, noting that as they are all striving for the betterment of the country, they should all see themselves as one family irrespective of political party affiliation.
While commending Governor Abiola Ajimobi and his team for the peace that reigned in the State since he took over the mantle of leadership in the State, Anozie also congratulated all the Obas in the State, more importantly the Olubadan of Ibadanland and Alaafin’s of Oyo, Oba Saliu Adetunji and Oba Lamidi Adeyemi respectively for the peaceful atmosphere that has been existing between all tribes residing in Oyo State.
He said, “We congratulate Governor Ajimobi and his team for the peace that has been reigned in the State since he took over the mantle of leadership. We congratulate him and his administration for the developmental pace that has become faster during his administration.
“We congratulate all the Obas in the State more importantly the Olubadan of Ibadanland and the Alaafin of Oyo for the peaceful atmosphere that existed between all Nigerians resident in the State. If we do not appreciate this, it becomes very unfair of us, even though we know that Yorubas who reside in Igboland are all at home down there”.
Present at the event include representative of Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Saliu Adetunji, Aje Ogunguniso I, who was represented by Agba Akin Olubadan, Oloye Lekan Alabi, representative of GOC, 2nd Mechanise Division, Odoogbo, Ibadan and representative of Commissioner for Information, Culture and Tourism, Toye Arulogun and other dignitaries.
