Following the number of violent crimes and incessant high profile abductions in Kaduna state which resulted in the death of an Army Colonel and a Cleric, the Inspector-General of Police, IGP, Solomon Arase, has directed the Assistant Inspector-General, AIG of Police in charge of Zone 7, Ballah Nasarawa, to relocate to the state to curb it.
DAILY POST recalls that in recent times, an Army Colonel, Samaila Inusa was kidnapped and later found dead.
Also, a director in the Dangote Group, Mansur Ahmed; and three clerics, Revs. Emmanuel Dziggau, Yakubu Dzarma, Ilya Anto and one Afolabi Alega were abducted.
While four of the victims survived the abduction, the Colonel, Inusa and and Cleric, Anto were murdered by their abductors.
In view of this, the IG in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Bisi Kolawole, on Monday in Abuja, admonished the AIG to evolve new intelligence-gathering and crime-fighting techniques and methodologies to suit the local challenges in the state.
Arase directed that police officers who had served in the state command for a period of six years and above should be transferred out of the command with corresponding replacement.
He also charged the AIG to devise means of halting the incessant kidnapping as well as other forms of crimes and criminality, especially in Jere, Kagarko Local Government Area of the state.
Arase, in the statement, directed the Kogi State Commissioner of Police and his counterpart in the Federal Capital Territory to improve on the surveillance network and high police visibility in their respective commands, especially along Abuja-Lokoja-Okene and Kabba-Owo axis, to check incessant criminal activities in the areas.
The statement said, “The IG assured the citizenry of the commitment of the Nigeria Police Force to their safety, noting that the police in cooperation with other security agencies will continually ensure strategic responses towards eliminating any threat to internal security of the nation.”
