IG of Police holds meeting with Sambo over National Assembly fracas


Following the fracas at the National Assembly complex yesterday, involving the Speaker of the House of Representatives and other members of the lower chamber of the National Assembly, the Presidency, Friday summoned the Inspector General of the Police, Mr. Sulaiman Abba.

The IGP, who was summoned to the office of the Vice President, Namadi Sambo for a closed door meeting, came out of the VP’s office after about one hour.

Abba, in response to questions from Journalist over whether he authorized the siege on the National Assembly, responded by saying “Who did what and who didn’t do what will be disclosed to you later. You know we work with investigations, investigations are going on and the press officer will address you.”

Pressed further on whether he was in the dark over the deployment, the IGP repeated his earlier statement, adding that the Police just don’t talk anyhow.

In another interview with the BBC Hausa Service , Abba, in response to a question as to stories making the rounds that some of his men were wounded in yesterday fracas, said “Everybody has seen that somebody was even beating somebody, somebody was pushing a policeman from the car. Somebody was removing road blocks mounted by the police; we have never seen this kind of thing in the whole world. So we will talk to you later.”

He however said Nigerians should wait and see the action the Police will take following the outcome of its ongoing findings.
