Enyeama is still world class
I’ve spent the last weeks worshipping at Vincent Enyeama’s feet and last night he proved why he is the best goalkeeper we have ever had. When he was called upon, Enyeama was once again commanding and assured. His save with his legs from Edin Dzeko in the last minute of the match was simply sensational!
Odemwingie is world class too
This is not rocket science, is it? Against Iran, when Keshi brought on the Stoke City forward, the quality of the Eagles attack changed instantly. Odemwingie brings pace, purpose and skill to the squad and I was massively pleased he grabbed the winning goal.
Potential world beaters among the Eagles
There are a couple of players who will become world class too with time and dedication. Kenneth Omeruo was colossal in the middle of defence alongside Joseph Yobo and will become a fine defender if he keeps maturing at this pace. Emmanuel Emenike is still a bit raw, but he also has what it takes to be among the best if he adds a bit of finesse.
Yobo earns his 98th cap
Well, the Fenerbahce player is on his way to becoming the first Nigerian player ever to hit the 100-cap mark, after Godfrey Oboabona’s injury opened the door for him to start against Bosnia.
Bench for Moses
I was really pleased that not only did Keshi drop Moses, he did not have a reason to call him from the bench. The Chelsea winger has been below par in the last few matches and I think he needed a timely reminder that there are no invincibles in the team. Babatunde Michael who started in attack was bright, hungry and more direct.
Dodgy refereeing
Let’s be honest. Bosnia should have been ahead, before the African champions scored. Dzeko latched on to a well-weighted through pass and slotted the ball home, but the goal was wrongly ruled out. The Manchester City striker was ONSIDE, as several replays showed. There have been a lot of debate over whether Emenike fouled Spahic in the build-up to Nigeria’s goal. I think there is nothing wrong with that goal.
We are (almost) through
With the win over Bosnia, Nigeria now has four points and in second place behind Argentina. Both sides will meet in the final group match to decide who finishes on top and who gets to play France in the round of 16. I don’t expect Bosnia, even though they have been eliminated, to lose to Iran.
