Rodgers lives to fight another day
You probably never know the mail Brendan Rodgers would have woken up to tomorrow morning, if Martin Skrtel didn’t tower above crouching Arsenal players to head in the leveller. Another loss today and the owners would have probably started looking for agents’ number. But his team fought well and deserved a point.
Same ol’ Arsene, same ol’ Arsenal
Last season, Arsene Wenger’s men were four goals down in the first 20 minutes. It could have been the same scenario on Sunday, if Luis Suarez and Daniel Sturridge were available to compliment Raheem Sterling. You have to wonder why Wenger never sets up his team proactively. His players also look overwhelmed and clueless at big away game.
Sanchez needs a rest
When presented between Anfield and the Emirates last summer, Alexis Sanchez chose the latter. Today would have been the day when he rubbed it in. But the Chile international was not his effervescent today and basically did nothing of worth. He looked tired and out of ideas. With his romantic relationship perhaps weighing in, maybe Wenger should give him a little break to recharge his batteries.
What do Arsenal players do in training?
After the match, Wenger told the BBC: “In the long stoppage time you have to survive two three corners and free-kicks. For their goal, we had plenty of defenders on the pitch. It’s disappointing that we didn’t even jump. You want everybody to be focused on the corner.”. One quick question, Monsieur: what do Arsenal players really practise all week, apart from jump shots and taking selfies? Even their famed passing game doesn’t exist anymore!
Is Rodgers’ new formation the solution?
Once again, the Northern Irishman persisted with three at the back. You would have thought Sanchez, Danny Welbeck and Olivier Giroud would be rubbing their hands. But no, the hosts looked assured and passed the ball around neatly. They probably would have been out of sight, if there was a bit more quality in front. It’s the same formation Rodgers has used in the last three games. Let’s just hope that therein lies the solution to his headache.
