Ozil is a 10 This is not rocket science, is it? The German playmaker is one of the best in that ’10’ position in the world. But for whatever reason, Arsene Wenger kept sticking him on the wings, trying to re-do a Robert Pires. When the team sheets came out, I tweeted that if the languid midfielder is starting from his preferred position, then his season starts at Villa Park. One goal and one assist later, I guess you agree with me. Ozil was bright, busy and beautiful to watch. His deadly grace and prescient passing there for all to see. Welbeck will come good for Arsenal It is still early days, but the former Manchester United striker is showing some promise. With Ozil playing centrally off him, the 23-year-old put in a much improved display, full of typical energy and pace. I especially liked the way they both provided assists for each other in the three minutes of madness that settled the tie. Always make pressure count Playing at home, Villa flew out of the blocks in the first half. They pressed the Gunners high up the pitch, forced Woijiech Szczensy into an error and a fine save. Then of course, Ozil and Welbeck combined to settle the tie in ruthless manner. Ramsey is still off form The Welshman is trying too hard at the moment. Yes, he is out of form, but he needs to keep it simple and moving. At the moment, the midfielder is trying too many fancy and audacious things, that is not coming off for him. One thing you will never doubt, is his work rate and an ability to pop up with a goal. Villa will be fine
Paul Lambert’s team were not as poor as the final scoreline suggested. Last week, they put in a good performance as they beat Liverpool at Anfield, but lost at home today. They looked organised in the early part of the match, but lost their way after the goal blitz. They have tough fixtures coming up, but they will be alright.
