1. Enyeama’s 100th cap
The build up to this friendly match has been dominated with the talk of Vincent Enyeama’s centenary. The Lille stopper deserves every single accolade that continues to come his way. From the moment he announced himself on the big stage, with that terrific left-handed save to deny Paul Scholes at the 2002 World Cup, he has not looked back. And what a way to honour Enyeama – in his hometown, in front of his very own.
2. New faces
With Brown Ideye out with injury, you can expect the triumvirate of Ahmed Musa, Odion Ighalo and Anthony Ujah to lead Nigeria’s attack against Milutin Sredojevic’s men. Musa is not new to us, both the duo of Ighalo and Ujah have earned call-ups, thanks to their fantastic form in England and Germany respectively. There are likely to be more new faces from the bench too.
3. Amokachi takes charge
As he has done in recent games, interim coach Daniel Amokachi is expected to handle the Super Eagles at the Akwa Ibom International Stadium. The Nigeria Football Federation (NFF), is yet to confirm his boss Stephen Keshi as the permanent man in charge, although that is expected to happen before the week to run out – if everything goes to plan.
4. A Super Eagles win
Well, isn’t that what we are all expecting? If Bolivia had not cancelled last week, the South Americans would have probably provided sterner opposition for the hosts. The Cranes of Uganda are ranked 74th in the world. But let’s not get heavy-headed yet. They beat the Super Eagles 2-1 in an African Cup of Nations qualifier in Kampala in June 2007.
5. Live transmission
Of course, you can expect the game to be beamed live from Uyo. From 6pm on Wednesday, keep your TV tuned to the usual suspects – NTA, AIT and Super Sports.
