The Arewa Consultative Forum, a socio-cultural northern organisation has called on the Federal Government to without delay identify and dialogue with the real leaders of the violent insurgent group, Boko Haram to stop further violent carnage in the North.
The group also took to the cleaners, former Heads of State and ex-presidents as well as current political leaders from the North for their silence in the face of the continued massacre in some parts of the region.
The forum, through its National Publicity Secretary, Muhammad Ibrahim, said the invasion of the Yobe State capital, Damaturu, despite the presence of security operatives showed that the level of insecurity in the North-East had gone beyond the nation’s military capacity.
Ibrahim, who spoke in Kaduna on Monday, also asked the Federal Government to stop the killings in the North-East by all means, insisting that, the recent attacks on Kano, Borno and Yobe states were clear indications that Nigeria was under siege.
The statement said: “We at the ACF feel saddened and really disturbed with the invasion of Damaturu by Boko Haram insurgents resulting in the killing of innocent people and destruction of property.
“ACF noted that Nigeria is gradually sliding into anarchy with territories being seized and taken over by insurgents without any serious counter-resistance from our military. This situation clearly demonstrates that our security agencies are poorly equipped to contain the spread of insurgency.
“Government must as a matter of urgency identify the real leaders of Boko Haram and enter into a real dialogue with them, with a view to bringing an end to this bloodletting.”
