IBB’s foster mother dies at 101


The foster mother of former military president, General Ibrahim Babangida (IBB), Hajiya Safiya Akere is dead.

The Safiya died at the age of 101 on May 22, last Thursday evening at the family house, along Kuta road, Minna, after a brief illness.

She was the mother of Director-General, Millennium Development Goals, Niger State, Dattijo Aliyu.

A three-day Fidau prayer for Hajiya Safiya Akere has taken place in their family house in Minna.

During the prayers, Babangida who returned back to the country from Germany on the day Hajiya Akere died, spoke on her life.

He said: “When there was a problem, she had a way of solving it in a simple and less sophisticated way.”

IBB prayed that Allah would grant the deceased a peaceful rest.

Alhaji Dattijo Aliyu, the son of the deceased, said his mother had always told him to forgive those who offend him, adding that her counselling has always helped him in life.

The deceased was married to the younger brother of the late father of the former military leader, Alhaji Hassan Akere and was survived by four other children.

Present at the burial were IBB, General Mohammed Inuwa Wushishi- a former Chief of Army Staff, former Governor of Niger State, Abdulkhadiri Kure, top politicians, family members, among others.
