Arsenal manager, Arsene Wenger, has insisted he will not stop Alex Iwobi from playing for Nigeria at this year’s Olympic Games in Rio.

The tournament runs from August 3 – 20 and could see the youngster miss the start of the 2016/2017 season, but Wenger is not ready to block his participation.

“He had the choice between England and Nigeria and in the end he chose Nigeria,” Wenger told reporters ahead of the Gunners clash against West Ham.

“We respect that, and also the possibility that he will go to the Olympic Games, and travel a bit more than he would have done here.”

Wenger also confirmed that the 19-year-old is in talks with the club, to sign a new deal that will see him earn around £30,000 per week.
