I won’t divert bailout funds – Fayose assures workers

Governor Ayodele Fayose of Ekiti State has assured that his administration will not divert the bailout made available by the Federal Government to help the state clear the backlog of salaries of civil servants.

He claimed that being a lover of workers, he would not deny them of their wages as written in the Bible, pledging that the funds would be used for the purpose it was meant for.

The Governor, according to a statement issued on Friday by his Chief Press Secretary, Idowu Adelusi, spoke while delivering a lecture as part of activities marking this year’s Civil Service Week, where he pointed out that he had met all the requirements for the bailout but that he had yet to receive the money.

While assuring that the money would be paid immediately the bailout was made available, Fayose promised not to pursue “developmental projects at the detriment of the growth of workers’ stomach infrastructure.”

The statement quoted him as saying, “At the last meeting I held with all of you, you asked me to go ahead and get the bailout. I’ve gone ahead, I’ve signed. I am waiting for the money and as soon as the money comes, I will pay. I am not going to be among the governors that will divert the bailout. I want the stomach infrastructure inside you to grow.”

He said he would not hesitate to make necessary sacrifices to ensure the wellbeing of the state workforce, the way he had been since he assumed office in October, 2014.
