Manchester United captain, Wayne Rooney, has vowed never to play for another Premier League team.
Rooney, who is chasing down Sir Bobby Charlton’s scoring record at Old Trafford, has been linked with a late-career move back to Everton, but he insists that he will never join a domestic rival.
“I am happy to say now that, whatever may happen in the future, I will never play for another Premier League club,” Rooney said.
The England striker has also announced plans for his testimonial match against Everton on August 3 at Old Trafford.
All the proceeds from the game will go to the NSPCC, the Claire House children’s hospice, Alder Hey children’s hospital and the Manchester United Foundation.
“This game will be a fitting tribute to everything he has achieved,” new United boss, Jose Mourinho, said.
“I’m looking forward to what will be a very special night for us both.”
