Carlo Ancelotti has revealed that he would never take up coaching role at Inter, out of the respect he has for AC Milan.
The Italian tactician spent eight years in charge of the Rossoneri, winning two Champions League trophies and one Serie A title.
While explaining why he will never consider managing their rivals, he said, “I could not coach Inter,” the 56=year-old told Goal.
“Because I had so many years at Milan, it’s a question of respect towards my history and the history of the club I have coached.
“There are many squads that I must avoid. I cannot go against my history.”
Ancelotti, who was sacked at Real Madrid earlier this year, also admitted he could have returned to Milan during the summer, but decided not to because of surgery on his back.
“When I finished with Madrid, there was contact with [club CEO Adriano] Galliani,” he explained.
“We met in Madrid but I had to have this operation.
“I would have been out for four months and I wouldn’t have been able to be at 100 per cent.
“So, while it disappointed me a little, it was the right thing to do and Milan understood this.”
