Joe Agi
A governorship aspirant on the platform of the Peoples Democratic Party in Cross River State, Mr. Joe Agi (SAN), said on Tuesday in Calabar that the issue of stomach infrastructure will be addressed in the state through massive development of the agricultural sector.
Agi, who submitted his data and administrative forms to members of the state PDP executive committee in Calabar said the state still has abundant natural resources that can be tapped despite losing 76 oil wells to Akwa Ibom State.
He said, “We will succeed in taking care of stomach infrastructure through the massive development of agriculture sector. Once that is done, all other things will be added to it.
“We know that as a nation, there will be so many challenges in 2015. The price of crude oil is tumbling and if it falls to $50 per barrel, where are we going to be? The earlier we start reverting to the era of late premier Michael Okpara, when agriculture held sway in the eastern region, the better.
“Once we get these things right, we do not have any business relying on the revenue from federal allocation. There is so much money to be made from the mineral deposits in Cross River which are yet to be tapped.”
Agi believes that if he gets the mandate of the party for the governorship election in 2015, power will return to the people through sustained empowerment initiatives.
While receiving the aspirant and his entourage, the state Chairman of the party, Mr. John Okon said that with the likes of Agi the northern senatorial district has shown it has what it takes to produce the next governor of the state, adding that the party will provide a level playing ground for aspirants.
“The northern part of Cross River has shown that it has all it takes to produce the next governor of Cross River State. Joe Agi has shown to us that he knows the state’s endowment and I can assure all aspirants that we will do everything to ensure a level playing field,”, Okon said.
