Power lifter, Kareem ‘Body’ Waheed, has revealed that he was once thinner than a broom.
Speaking to the media at his gym in Magodo, Lagos, Kareem Waheed, better known in the Nigerian Powerlifting circles as ‘Body’ reveals how he came about his nickname.
“Before I started, I was thin as what you can think, thinner than a broomstick. But when I started doing it (lifting), arms started coming out, biceps and everything. People then started asking me ‘Ahan, you don dey gather Body.’ So that’s why they started calling me ‘Body’.”
In March 2017, At the AAU Powerlifting and Weightlifting Championship in Las Vegas, USA, held at Harrah’s Laughlin hotel and Casino, Kareem Waheed emerged the overall best after competing with athletes from Europe, Asia, Africa and the Americas.
Kareem ‘Body’ Waheed is currently preparing for the next stage of the World Powerlifting & Weightlifting Championship being held in September 15 – 17, 2017 in Las Vegas, NV, USA. He shares his expectations about his chances at the upcoming event in a few days time.
“For Las Vegas, that’s the first time I have total support from a company because all my competitions have always been solo efforts but my Las Vegas trip was on Bet9ja so that actually made it very easy. I don’t need to run around for so many things, they put many things in place for me. Bet9ja has added more to my training and makes things easy for me.”
