A group of armed robbers said to be operating in police uniform are having a field day trailing and robbing commuters and motorists on Ibusa/Asaba road in Delta state.
The Sun reports that the armed hoodlums are usually dressed in police uniform in order to deceive unsuspecting motorists before robbing them at gun point.
A victim, one Mrs. Stella Odeh, who boarded a commercial tricycle on her way to Ibusa, narrated her ordeal, saying the armed robbers included females who also wore police uniform.
She said, “I was going to Ibusa on a tricycle on Sunday when we ran into two men who wore police uniform.
“They ordered the tricycle rider to stop, only for them to search us and remove the money in our bags, handsets and jewelries. When we raised alarm, they ran into the bush.”
Meanwhile, the state Commissioner of Police, CP, Mr. Alkali Usman, reportedly dismissed the allegation as untrue.
Usman however, admitted that Ibusa and Umunede communities had been flash-points of robbery syndicates.
The CP went on to assure that the police had re-strategized with a view to ensuring that the said hoodlums were apprehended and brought to book.
