A 37-year-old man, identified as Felix Sylva alias Tradition, suspected to be a member of the syndicate that abducted three girls from Babington Macaulay Junior Seminary School, BMJSS, in Lagos state has been arrested.
The suspect, who was arrested at Magboro area of Ogun State on Saturday for participating in another (abduction of a Chinese man), told New Telegraph on Thursday that he had been hiding since March after his accomplices were arrested.
Sylva, an Edo State indigene said he was having a nice time with his girlfriend when he was arrested.
He narrated, “After the abduction of the girls, I kept a low profile in order not to be arrested by the police.
“I was dealing in log woods at Ebute-Meta before I was sweet-talked into the operation of the kidnapping of the students by Elemoni, Million’s younger brother.”
Recall that the said Million had been in the news as a notorious criminal who led a gang of robbers who raided several banks on Admiralty Way, Lekki; Ikorodu in quick succession. He was later arrested after leading bank robberies at Agbara in Ogun State and FESTAC in Lagos.
Continuing, Sylva said, ”Elemoni told me kidnapping business is more lucrative than selling wood and they also promised me N500, 000 after the abduction which attracted me.
“I was not familiar with the terrain of Ikorodu creeks. It was Elemoni who said his father used to take them through the canal that leads to the school fence.
“A week before the abduction, we mapped out the whole area and then pulled down the fence of the school for possible escape after the operation. We never molested the girls, because it is a taboo to sleep with a woman in the creek.
“I was given N300, 000 from the operation. I have participated in two other operations.
“I was told by the police that I had been on their wanted list after the kidnapping of the three girls but I was arrested for another offence.
“I was at my hiding place in Igboolomu creek in Ikorodu, when my friend and gang member, Amos Nuku aka Mosquito approached me to join them in the kidnapping of a Chinese man.
“He said he was working with the Chinese man who was not treating him very well so he thought to kidnap him and he needed assistance.
“Nuku promised to give me N200, 000 after collecting ransom from the family members.
“When police arrested Amos, he mentioned my name.
“So, that was why police came to arrest me.
“I was arrested on Saturday at my house where I was making love with my girlfriend,” the suspected kidnapper added.
