The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA), governorship candidate in 2015 election in Kaduna State, Mr Polycarp Danladi Gankon, has said he miraculously escaped two assassination attempts on his life after the governorship election in the state.
He said that in one of the attempts on his life on the 17th September, 2015, he was in a hotel room in Kaduna for regular meetings with his political associates when he decided in the night to leave the hotel. He said, “I did not hesitate but l left the hotel and drove that night to Zaria but around 1am early morning, the assassins with masks on their faces and heavily armed came and ransacked every room in the hotel looking for me, but l was not there and they left without hurting or taking anything from anybody in the hotel.”
Addressing newsmen in Kaduna after the judgment which upheld the victory of governor El-Rufai in the last governorship election in the state, Mr. Gankon said different attempts were made to buy his conscience and that of the party to settle the court case out of court but said, “I have sworn not to accept any inducement from any party to relinquish the course of the common man which l have vowed to take until the end of the struggle. It is not a personal course but it is that of the general good of the people of Kaduna State and l promised to fight to the end.”
He noted that the party (APGA) decided to go to the election tribunal to seek for redress as a result the irregularities observed ranging from the certificate issued in the polling units.
The governorship candidate expressed dismay at the judgment of the governorship election tribunal , stressing that it was not surprising that the judges kept the people of the state waiting for hours before the commencement of the judgment without any explanation for starting behind scheduled.
Mr. Gankon refuted allegations made that the party was being sponsored by a party or anybody but said that the party was being sponsored by God Almighty, hence he added that it was fighting the course of the good people of Kaduna State. He thanked the good people of Kaduna State for standing solidly behind the party at this trying moment and assured that the struggle has just begun until victory is won.
In his reaction, the Director General of the campaign team, Alhaji Bala Tella, said the party would continue to fight for justice and use all legitimate means to ensure justice was done in the case.
