Outgoing Manchester United boss, Sir Alex Ferguson, has revealed that he skipped work on Tuesday, for the first time in his life this week.

The 71-year-old has built a reputation over the years, thanks to his incredible work ethic and drive. However, the Scot could not get out of bed early enough, to resume at 7am, as he was fatigued after the club’s Premier League victory parade.

“The whole last few days have been hard,” he said. “On the Monday night, after the parade, I slept for 10 hours, I think for the first time in my life!

“I was absolutely gone, knackered. I didn’t go in [to work the next morning].

“As it got to – I don’t know what time it was – I kept feeling the presence of Cathy coming into the bedroom.

“I think she was just checking to see if I was still alive!”
