The alleged operator of a “Baby Factory” recently shut down by the Enugu State Police Command, Ozo Ben Akpudache has disclosed he was running the place to render assistance to childless couples.
The middle aged man, who hails from Ogui Eke in Udi local Government Area of Enugu state is presently in police custody over his alleged involvement in the running of the factory where young expectant girls are kept and delivered of their babies.
He was arrested by the operatives of the 9th Mile Division of Enugu state command of the Nigeria police Force at his Ogui Eke residence where he has three room apartment reserved for young pregnant girls.
According to the Police PPRO in the State, Ebere Amaraizu, DSP, the suspect stated that he had been in the business for the past five years, adding that it was geared towards helping the needy who may have stayed up to many years without a child and was in need of one or more kids.
“He further revealed that the deliveries of the children from their mothers are carried out by him in one of those his apartments where a traditional labour room was situated; he said he is not a medical doctor but does his things traditionally”, Amaraizu disclosed.
Similarly, one of the pregnant girls Ugwu Nnenna, who narrated her ordeal, said she found herself in the apartment out of frustration.
She said the operator of the place allegedly promised her that she would be there to deliver the baby, and that after the delivery, some undisclosed amount would be given to her for her upkeep.
She also confessed that she was linked up to the place by someone, but regretted her action.
