Former Nigeria international, Mutiu Adepoju, has said that he knew that the Super Eagles will beat Zambia, in their first game of the 2018 World Cup qualifying series.

Alex Iwobi and Kelechi Iheanacho scored for Nigeria, before Collins Mbesuma pulled one back for the hosts. But it was not enough to stop the former African champions from taking all three points.

“I was very optimistic prior to the game,” Adepoju told Completesportsnigeria.com.

“With the right attitude and preparation of the players, I knew we were going to get a good result against Zambia.

“I predicted on Saturday that we were going to win 2-1 and it came to pass and I’m so happy we got our first three points.”

The three-time FIFA World Cup star added: “One of the positives in the game was that our boys put in everything in the game although there were some lapses from our team which brought pressure from the Zambians.

“The next game against Algeria will not be easy but we should just keep improving and hopefully we will get another win.”
