‘I only cuddled and played with her – Church security man arrested for defiling 4-year old-gir

A 29-year-old man, Joseph Effiong, has been arrested by the Akwa Ibom State Police Command for allegedly defiling a four-year-old girl (name withheld) in Uyo, the state capital.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Musa Kimo, who paraded the suspect alongside other suspects on Thursday at the command’s headquarters Ikot-Akpanabia Uyo, said Effiong lured his victim to an uncompleted building and defiled her.

According to him, “A security man at Royal City Central Chapel Church, Uyo, Joseph Effiong has been arrested who lured a four year old to an uncompleted building and defiled her on Jan 13, 2019.”

The suspect, who is believed to be in his 50s, during interrogation denied defiling the girl, insisting that he only cuddled and played with her.

However, the mother of the victim, Mrs. Okon told our correspondent that the suspect was his neighbour in Uyo.

Mrs. Okon said that the suspect had the privilege of allegedly committing the crime when she (victim’s mother) went to see her mother at the neighbouring village.

Her words, “I went to see my mother at the day of the incident. When I returned home, my neighbours told me that they saw my daughter with the man in a suspicious manner.

“When I asked my daughter, she told me that our neighbour (suspect), asked her to follow him and she accepted. When they got to one building, the suspect asked her to remove her pants which she did.

“My daughter also told me that at that point, the suspect fingered her and used his manhood to touch round her vagina and later dressed her up and gave her the sum of N50. That was what made me to report to the police.”

Also the commissioner paraded one Joseph Akpanowo for allegedly selling his one year four months old baby at the rate of N150,000 to one Nyakno Uwa ‘F’ who resides at Port Harcourt.

He said on the process of investigation, a sum of N125,500 was recovered as part of the proceed.

Kimo also paraded three child stealing syndicate, Nsikak Sunday, Uduak Effiong both male and Itohowo Godwin Akpan, ‘f’ who stole a girl of one year, three months and sold her in Anambra State. The Police Commissioner explained that the syndicate also snatched another three year-old-girl at Mbieriebe village at Ibesikpo LGA of Akwa Ibom and kept her in a motherless baby home in Anambra State to be sold.

He added that the suspects were traced, arrested and the girl was recovered and was handed over to her family.

The police boss further paraded one Nsikak Sunday, Mary Okon and Gertrude Thompson Akpan for alleged child theft.

According to the commissioner, “The suspects tricked one Emem Wanakwo ‘f’ and collected her two children on the pretext of taking the children to governor Udom’s wife to give them aid. The children were recovered and reunited with their parent.”

Kimo, however, disclosed that the command under his watch has within the last two months arrested about 213 suspects, 111 among them have been charged to court, some still undergoing investigation while those not culpable were released.
