I made N6m from people I promised to secure oil jobs for – Fake lawyer confesses

A self-acclaimed lawyer, simply identified as Olawale Falola, has been arrested by the Oyo State Police Command during a recent stop-and-search in Ibadan.

The police, who after noticing a sticker belonging to the Nigeria Bar Association (NBA) on his windscreen, stopped him and asked for his identity, but he allegedly couldn’t defend his lawyer status.

Falola was reportedly taken to the Oyo State Police Command where he was alleged to be a dropout of a University in Osun State.

On interrogation, the suspect reportedly confessed to have paraded himself ;/’-00as a lawyer, adding that he had extorted money from more than 100 people who he promised to secure jobs for at oil companies and security organizations.

Speaking further, the fake lawyer allegedly claimed to have made about N6m from his unsuspecting victims.

“I promised to get jobs for them at NNPC and security organisations. I have made up to N6m from the practice out of which I bought a Toyota Corolla car. I reside in Osogbo. I came to Ibadan to visit my family when I was arrested by the police,” Falola added.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Leye Oyebade, who reportedly confirmed the incident, said Falola’s car valued at N2m had been impounded.

According to Oyebade, Falola was arrested for parading himself as a lawyer when he was not.

“The car was bought from the proceeds of his illegal activity and he has confessed to the crime. There is no place for such people in our society. In our renewed effort to completely rid the state of criminals, the state police command will not give room for criminals to thrive.’

”As soon as investigations into his activities are concluded, he will be charged to Court,” the Commissioner noted.
