Benue State governor-elect, Samuel Ortom, has promised to ensure transparency in his government.
The former Minister of State for Trade and Industry disclosed that he entered a covenant with God before the polls that he would not convert a kobo of monies belonging to the state for personal use.
He made the revelation yesterday in Makurdi during an interaction with religious groups, including leaders of the NKST Central, Wadata-Makurdi; St. Francis Quasi Parish, Akpen, the management of Bishop Murray Medical Centre, as well as leaders of the Redeemed Evangelical Church Mission (REM) from Gboko.
Ortom said he is grateful to God, who he said elevated him from humble beginnings to his present status, saying that he is contented with what he had and no longer needed to “acquire more material things”.
He said he never had and won’t open a foreign account, promising to lead by example by shunning illegal acquisition of wealth.
Ortom said there would be zero tolerance for corruption in his administration and that he had already read the riot act to his family members and friends never to accept questionable gifts on his behalf.
