I’m the authentic PDP National Chairman – Sheriff tells Court

Embattled former Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, National Chairman, Senator Ali Modu Sheriff has told a Federal High Court in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, that he remained the authentic National Chairman of the party.

This is as he described the Senator Ahmed Makarfi-led Caretaker Committee as a group of “usurpers” and “contraption” set up in defiance of valid court orders.

Speaking through his counsel, Mr. Ajibola Oluyede, Sheriff urged the court to hold that only he could preside over a convention to chose the party’s leaders.

Sheriff in a motion before the court is arguing that those who sued him and Oladipo lacked “the authority and locus standi” to institute the suit on behalf of the party.

He also urged the court to discharge the ex parte order restraining them from holding their offices.

They argued that the party’s National Working Committee which is still under their control, did not instruct anyone to file the action on the party’s behalf.

Recall that the party had constituted a legal action against Sheriff and the National Secretary of the party, Professor Adewale Oladipo, who was PDP National Secretary; Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC; Inspector-General of Police and the Department of State Services, DSS, before Justice I. Liman restrained Sherriff and Oladipo from parading themselves as Chairman, Secretary or members of the National Executive Committee, NEC, or National Working Committee, NWC, of the party until the suit was determined.
